ALEX AMIDON GIVING UP POTENTIAL CAREER IN NFL WITH HOPES OF BECOMING NAVY SEAL
Boston College wide receiver Alex Amidon has decided to bypass a potential career in the NFL and attempt to become a U.S. Navy SEAL, BC Interrupted reports.
Amidon finished 11th in the nation in receiving in 2012 with 1210 yards, and led BC in receiving last year with 1024 yards. He finished his career at BC with a school-record 191 receptions for a school-record 2,792 yards and 15 TDs. He had 78 receptions in 2012 and 77 in 2013; those are the two best single-season marks in school history.
This decision comes as sort of a shock because Amidon would have definitely been given the opportunity to play in the NFL. Although he wasn’t invited to last week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Amidon was still listed on many draft boards to be a potential third day pick.
I applaud Amidon who is willing to make the sacrifice to protect the United States. His decision truly shows the type of character this young man has. (Greg M. Cooper/USA TODAY Sports)
